Hanging Out

I have been back at the sewing chair for the first time in ages, leaving the seaside has not done wonders for my making. It has been almost a year since we left the island for the city, hopefully I am finding my way again now. Home made Valentine cards and chocolate and beetroot brownies undertaken today, I am pretty happy with the results! Also a little Charity Shop trawling last week which brought me some wonderful vintage children’s books, they are from the sixties and seventies, a couple published in the year of my birth no less. I was drawn to the beautifully illustrated covers but the insides are just as ace.

I am particularly looking forward to reading The Doll’s House by Rumer Godden, I have vague memories of it from childhood. ‘Tottie Plantaganet’ is such a great name for a doll, she is stylish too (see above), reminds me a little of the dolls from the wonderful Le Train Fantome.

Saw this, want this. From Squirrellicious.

That copy of The Dolls’ House was in my classroom when I worked as a teacher. Even though I knew none of the children had even looked at it all year, I couldn’t handle the guilt of stealing it. Kind of wish I had now I see it again… I do have the Something To Do book though and love it. I was just browsing through it the other day actually. It’s so sweet.

  2. i have been crocheting rugs this winter and now i am on the lookout for a good source of thick natural cotton rope to make a version that will hold a pattern and shape better but still have a soft touch for toes.

  4. I’ve been meaning to get myself a copy of Tottie DVD from The Dragons Friendly Society. I remembered seeing it as a child and finding it fascinating but had no idea what it was called (I though she was Tolly) til I guessed that it reminded me of Bagpuss (what with Mr Postgate narrating and all). Maybe I need a treat!

I had “Something to do” when I was small. Gosh that brought back good memories! I know I don’t comment often…but I am enjoying your posts of beautiful things, xxx

Margaret Oomen: have you tried Tarn (t-shirt yarn)? It was what I thought of instantly when I saw that rug.
