The Chambers of The Sea… Another one of *Those* Posts!

We have lingered in the chambers of the sea
By sea-girls wreathed with with seaweed red and brown
Till human voices wake us, and we drown.

I have had the poetry of T.S. Eliot ringing around my head for the past few weeks, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock in particular, I am living in his world of imagery, perhaps a blocking tactic, a longing for another place and time, a sea chamber, to be out of my element and protected simultaneously. I will be taking a break from my poor, neglected blog to concentrate on some family issues, it saddens me to bow out for the time being. I have also put my Etsy shop into vacation mode, hopefully it won’t be out of action for too long. I have gathered a few of my favourite things together for you below. I hope to see you all again before too long.

Evocative drawings from Lauren Nassef (seahorse above too).

Do you think the Superstitious Man (above) was a mariner once?

Incredible work from Kathryn Spence, I would love to see these pieces in person. Inspiring!

Wooden Dolls based on the work of designer Alexander Girard available from Vitra Design Museum shop.

Feather man is my favourite.

Stripes with my name on them, the Lisa Dress from Permanent Vacation

Some other pretty things.

I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each.

I do not think they will sing to me.

  1. Lisa, did you know that was my absolute favorite poem ever written , except perhaps that last poem my son wrote for father’s day. It is the only poem I can recite by heart in its entirety and very amazing feat for my somewhat illiterate little brain. Cathy cullis even “wrote” out some of it for me on cloth to use in a very special future project. Let us go then you and I when the evening is spread out against the sky……

Funny Margie that I have included that first line in one of my pieces for Plush You! It would be lovely to read this together someday, really Eliot lights my world in a way matched only by Shakespeare for sound, imagery and precision.

We’ll miss you while you’re gone darling Lisa. You’re a light in our little dark world.

One of the far too few shining beacons of my craft universe.

    Love!

    -Rose

  4. don’t you wish there were recording of the voices of poets like ts eliot reading to us
I can’t wait to see your plush you pieces. I haven’t even started mine yet 🙁

  5. Rane says:

Lisa I hope that all is going well with you and your
owlet. Your favorites are lovely. And this poem is
one that I think many love… you are not alone.
one of my favorite lines in it is….
“I have measured out my life with coffee spoons”
I think it is great, and so true… day after day I
do the same…. my personal count of days could be
    by coffee spoons really.
Hope all is well, take care sweetie… my ear is open if
    you need it.
Loads of Love to you and yours,
    Rane

  6. I did not know this poem before, so lovely. Such soul in all the works in this post, Lisa. All so beautiful! … as you are! miss you already.

I hope you are alright. Sometimes we all need to take breaks as the universe is sometimes too much with us. I agree with Rosemoo…”you are a light in our dark little world.” I will miss the visual treats and the lovely words you express, but I am wishing you good rest and gentle breezes that will soothe a tired soul in her sea chamber.

  8. Amy says:

I, too, will miss you, Lisa! Best, and hugs, to you and yours. Take all the time you need–we’ll be waiting, with hopeful faces, when you return!

I could use another smoke ring… just to know you are
still there and you and your owlet are ok…. you never
got back to me to let me know how it was going.
Hope all is well and you are ok, sending all the love and
motherly strength I can. I am all ears and if you need to
just chat or vent I am here too, loads of love sweetie.
